F*cking Buzz Words

In line with my post about nuts being a fat source over a protein source. Yet being marketed as a ‘good source of protein’, about a month ago, we have another!

Quinoa!

The packet pictured states it is a ‘source of protein for muscle growth’.

And that is not a lie, there is protein in it. 6%!

Yet it is 28% Carbohydrates! And, interestingly, gram for gram, higher in fat than whole milk.

That’s right pop pickers! That’s a fact!

This is not a good source of Protein, it is a good source of Carbohydrates! Yes, it has Protein in it, but the reason you eat this is to get your Carbs in!

The food industry needs to stop with this ‘BUZZ’ word bullshit, as it unnecessarily glorifies certain nutrients over others and causes confusion.

‘Protein this and Protein that’. ‘Keto this and Keto that’. ‘Plant based’, ‘Fasting’, ‘Metabolism boosting’, ‘Vegan’, ‘Slow release’, ‘Low GI’, ‘Low in X’, ‘Good source of Y’, ‘High in Anti-Oxidants’…!

Fuck Off! With your Anti-Oxidants, I’d rather eat an orange! Why are you putting ‘Vegan’ on a packet of rice, and yes, butter in your coffee makes you a total wanker!

You can argue very well certain macros are more important to eat than others, but adding this type of confusion to our already confusing food labelling system is just a Big Dick move! All macros are important. Period!

Using BUZZ words to make sales needs to stop, this is a carb source, it’s as simple as that!

Why would you not glorify the main nutrient in your product? Highlight the benefits of eating it and run with that?

There is not one mention about the benefits of eating Carbs on this packet. But it does state it as a ‘healthy alternative to white rice’ and is lower in GI in comparison.

So bloody what! Btw rice isn’t unhealthy! Carbs are good, very, very, very good!

To get the same protein delivery from this packet as you would from one chicken breast you would need to eat 500g of this stuff!

And that is a lot.

A 125g portion as stated gives 35g Carbs, 7.5g Protein and 5.25g Fat.

This is a Carb source…. Shout about that on your Fu*king label for god’s sake!

Because that’s what it is!
