Exercise & Calories! – Pt2

I hate statements like in the pic above!!

Here’s a way…! I burn 90kcals an hour at total rest!

So I’m gonna sleep for 90mins… There you go you fucktard! Over 100kcals burned!

It’s just so meaningless!!

’50 ways to burn 100kcals!’ – Piss off!

This type of slogan gets tagged on to fitness classes, equipment you can buy on shopping channels and ‘healthy’ snacks.

And its all marketing twaddle! (love the word twaddle!! Say it 5 times, with a pause in between)

This morning, my 1st training session (yes I’m pretentious enough to number the times I train per day!) was at 0600. Training at 0600 gives me an overwhelming sense of grandeur!

Not today however!

I pushed so hard I felt sick! Which doesn’t usually happen. And LOVED IT!

I got home, had some water and led on the floor for 25min!

And you know what?

I only burnt 200kcals – in 30mins!

My legs were dead! My arse is now sore and I’m walking a little bit like I’ve shit myself.

Sure there will be some DOMS from my training sessions (yep plural) completed yesterday, but this morning was a monster. It was 20kcal SPRINT on the Air bike every 3 mins! Not gently flow through the kcals as that would be easy, but ‘SPRINT BITCHES!!’

Go hard! Or go home bro!

And the point I made yesterday about exercise calories makes sense again.

You can work your arse off, full tilt, 100% effort and the total energy expenditure is relatively low.

The benefit to my fitness doing sessions like this is awesome, but it’s not a ‘fat burning’ session.

And quite frankly, due to the nature of the session, could easily see me taking it easy today as DOMS sets in.

So again. When looking for fat loss, exercise adds a little extra to your daily burn, as long as you keep generally active.

You still need to watch what you eat, as that 200kcals is only 2-3 Jaffa cakes! and you know 1 serving of those badassed mofo’s is a sleeve of 12!

Exercise is a really important part of a bigger weight loss strategy as the benefits to health are huge, but you will never, ever out train a calorie dense, nutritionally poor (bad) diet.

So don’t even try.
